Many list-members will have been astounded to learn that the 4th
International Congress for the Archaeology of the Ancient Near East
(4ICAANE) to be held in Berlin in 2004 was set down for 1-7 April - a date
coinciding with the Jewish Passover and therefore discouraging the
attendance of our many Jewish colleagues.

(Many thanks to Stefan Wimmer for his 12 June ANE post, alerting the
research community to the problem).

Those of us who wrote to the Organising Committee in order to protest this
range of dates (and many of those who didn't!) will no doubt be extremely
pleased to learn that the Congress dates will now be moved one week ahead of
the original schedule.

The 4ICAANE Berlin 2004 will therefore now extend from Sunday 28th April
(afternoon registration) until Saturday night April 3rd.

No official announcement has yet been made to publicise this fact
(undoubtedly set to appear in the imminent 2nd Circular....), which
nonetheless may be confirmed by viewing the Congress website:

http://www.4icaane.de/

(Thanks once again to Stefan Wimmer for today drawing my - and our -
attention to this currently unpublicised change! Thanks also to the
Organising Committee for facilitating the change in dates).

Those few who had made plans should now revise them in the light of this new
information. Let us hope we may now put this unfortunate glitch behind us
and together enjoy a fabulous Congress next (northern) spring.
